Career stage and career breaks

MATERIALIZE does not set a maximum number of years since obtaining the doctoral degree.

The programme welcomes researchers with diverse and non-linear career paths, including researchers returning after career breaks and those moving between countries, disciplines or sectors. Career circumstances will be considered in context during assessment.

Doctoral degree

You must hold a doctoral degree by the MATERIALIZE application deadline.

An official document confirming the defence of your doctoral thesis is accepted when the doctoral defence has been successfully completed before the call deadline but the final diploma has not yet been issued.

The successful defence must be unconditional, without further requirements or corrections.

Nationality

Researchers of any nationality may apply.

Applicants must meet all remaining eligibility and mobility requirements.

Mobility rule

You must meet the MSCA mobility rule for Poland.

12 months maximum in Poland

36 months preceding the deadline

You must not have resided or carried out your main activity — including work, studies or a similar activity — in Poland for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately preceding the MATERIALIZE call deadline.

Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account. Documents confirming compliance with the mobility rule may be requested.

Employment status

Researchers already permanently employed by IOC PAS cannot be recruited with COFUND support.

Scientific fit

Your proposal must:

fall within the MATERIALIZE scientific scope;
present an original and feasible research project;
be suitable for implementation in one of the participating IOC PAS research environments;
identify appropriate scientific supervision;
include the required international or intersectoral dimension and secondment plan;
be planned for no more than 36 months.

Complete and timely submission

The complete application must be prepared in English and sent by the published deadline.
